Explantation is the complete removal of implants; replacement is the insertion of new implants, with possible adjustments to the shape and size of the breasts.
It shrinks in volume, and its shape depends on the skin’s elasticity, the size of the previous implants, age, and the condition of the patient’s own tissues.
A breast lift is necessary in cases of severe ptosis, excess skin, or displacement of the nipple-areola complex following long-term use of large implants.
Capsulectomy is the removal of the scar tissue capsule surrounding an implant; it is performed in cases of capsular contracture, breast deformity, pain, or implant rupture.
The procedure is performed under anesthesia through the old scar: the implant is removed, a capsulotomy is performed if necessary, and then sutures are applied and compression garments are put on.
Initial recovery takes 1–3 weeks; returning to your normal routine takes 2–4 weeks; and it takes up to 2–3 months for the results to fully stabilize.
