Liposuction is a procedure aimed at removing localized fat pads in order to correct the shapes and contours of certain body parts. The principle of the procedure – through a special tube (cannula), which is placed under the skin, excess fat is absorbed by means of a vacuum apparatus.
Liposuction before and after
Indications for liposuction
Liposuction is carried out in order to remove the surface layer of adipose tissue, which is located between the skin and muscles. Liposuction does not help in case of excess fatty tissue located under the muscles and inside the abdominal cavity (deep and inner layers of fat).
An adult has a constant number of fat cells, and obesity occurs due to increasing of these cells in volume. Liposuction is indicated in case of local obesity, there are definite places, such as fat deposits in the thighs, pelvis, abdomen, flanks, chin, knee joint.
Liposuction is not able to solve the problem of obesity affected by metabolic disorders, excess of fat cells due to genetic factors, unhealthy diet, other reasons.
The purpose of liposuction is the correction of the contours and shapes of individual body parts, but not the loss in the whole body mass.
General contraindications: cancer, cardiovascular and acute infectious diseases, chronic hypertensive disease, thyroid disorders, diabetes mellitus, blood-clotting disorder, pregnancy, endocrine obesity, apparent disorders of skin elasticity.
Adipose tissue is removed through small punctures (2-10 mm) in the skin using a thin metal tube (cannula) and a vacuum apparatus where one of the cannula ends is attached. The apparatus provides negative pressure. “Back and forth” movements of the cannula destroy subcutaneous fat and contribute to its vacuum suction.
Skin wounds are sutured with hidden cosmetic sutures, drain tubes are placed in the liposuction areas, but they are removed in 1-2 days. At the end of the procedure, the patient wears a special compression garment in order to prevent complications.
