Snoring (rhonchopathy) – sound vibrations that occur during the passage of air through the respiratory tract at a time of sleep because of a partially blocked nasopharynx or larynx. Snoring leads to disruption of the deep sleep phase, chronic fatigue, headaches, and life-threatening respiratory and cardiac disorders. Family members suffer from a snoring person due to permanent lack of sleep as well.
Indications for surgery to stop snoring
Snoring surgery is necessary, if:
- Conservative (medicamental) methods of treatment are powerless.
- Snoring makes difficulties for the patient and his family to have a good nights rest.
- Snoring is accompanied by periodic short-term interruption of breathing during sleep (apnea) with risks to the health and life of the patient.
- There is a heavy form of snoring with loud sounds and chokes.
Types and costs of snoring surgery
In “Certus” clinic the surgery to stop snoring is performed using one of two methods in order to remove excess tissues of the soft palate and expand the area of air passage through the respiratory tract. In case of enlarged tonsils, the snoring surgery may involve tonsillectomy.
Coblation treatment
Coblation treatment of palatal snoring is carried out with the help of innovative equipment. It gives the possibility to incise the soft palate and remove the excess fragments in an accurate, bloodless, and quick way using the cold plasma flow. Coblation treatment in contrast to laser therapy involves the use of relatively low temperatures (40-70℃) for tissue destruction.
It provides:
- Minimal injury.
- Absence of bleeding.
- The shortest recovery period.
Surgical treatment
Surgical treatment of palatal snoring involves resection of the excess part of the uvula and other parts of the soft palate with a scalpel. This type of treatment requires a long healing time and a longer recovery period than the snoring treatment by means of coblation.
The price of the snoring surgery depends on the type of surgery. The procedure with coblation equipment is more expensive than surgical treatment. Localization and size of excess tissues of the oral cavity, as well as the method of anesthesia influence on the price. Approximate prices for snoring surgery in our clinic are presented in the section of the same name.
