Endocrine surgery is a surgical intervention aimed at eliminating disturbances in the work of the endocrine system. One of the most common pathologies are diseases of the thyroid and parathyroid glands. Experienced doctors of the Certus clinic use new effective methods to treat a wide variety of endocrine system deviations.

Thyroid function and treatment

The thyroid gland, through the hormones produced (thyroxine, triiodothyronine, thyrocalcitonin), participates in the regulation of metabolism in the body, being involved in many processes. Diseases are specific in nature and depend on the content of hormones. Thyroid pathology:

  • hyperfunction (hyperthyroidism) or Graves’ disease (goiter);
  • hypofunction (hypothyroidism) – myxedema,
  • oncological diseases,
  • inflammatory processes,
  • thyrotoxicosis,
  • autoimmune thyroiditis.

The thyroid gland is the largest endocrine organ. Thyroid hormones increase basal metabolism, increase oxygen consumption, therefore, significantly affect energy metabolism, contribute to the “feeding” of human activities: digestive, psycho-neurological, metabolic, sexual. Pathology of the gland can occur due to changes in the anatomical structure, due to fluctuations in the content of hormones.

Diseases significantly affect the human condition: weight decreases or increases, increased nervousness or apathy appears, cardiological, gastroenterological symptoms join. It is possible to diagnose the disease during the initial examination, additional studies are necessary to confirm: ultrasound, laboratory tests (blood for TSH, T3, T4, ATPO).

Abnormalities in the work of the parathyroid glands

The parathyroid glands (4 in total) are anatomically localized on the posterior surface of the thyroid gland. The main function of the organs is the production of parathomone, which determines the concentration of calcium in the blood, and also participates in the regulation of the exchange of phosphorus and calcium. An increase in calcium secretion is indicative of hyperparathyroidism. There are the following forms: primary and secondary. The cause of the primary form is often a benign tumor of the parathyroid glands, the secondary is a compensatory enhancement of functions, an increase in glands with an insufficient calcium content, which may be due to a deficiency of vitamin D, impaired renal function.

The main diagnosis is laboratory tests (determination of the level of calcium, parathyroid hormone, phosphorus, vitamin D in the blood).

Preparing for surgery

The decision about any operation in the field of endocrine surgery should be made by an endocrinologist after a series of mandatory examinations, such as:

  • ultrasound;
  • analyzes for hormones;
  • general blood tests;
  • ECG;
  • coagulogram.

With additional indications, a CT scan of the neck and organ biopsy may also be done. While preparations are underway for the operation, the patient must undergo a consultation with an anesthesiologist. The doctor will help you choose the most suitable type of anesthesia in order to avoid negative consequences on the body. The date of the operation is assigned after all analyzes, elimination of contraindications, confirmation of the diagnosis.

The safety of operations is ensured by the high professionalism and rich experience of surgeons at the Certus Medical Center. Any surgical intervention is performed under general anesthesia. The course of the operation and rehabilitation after it directly depends on the problem that the surgeons have to solve, as well as on the individual characteristics of the patient’s body. The clinic’s specialists guide the patient after the operation, prescribing therapy and checking the state of the body during follow-up examinations. The main goal is to achieve complete recovery.

Regardless of the problem with which the patient turned to the clinic “Certus”, he can be sure that he will fall into the hands of experienced doctors who do their job with high quality. Timely treatment facilitates treatment and allows faster recovery, even if surgery is required.
